A $150,000 grant through the Republic Services Charitable Foundation is supporting Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh's project at the community center. "This is a step forward for the community to start looking at housing and start looking at community gatherings," said Steve Hellner-Burris, VP of the Hosanna House. "For so long, Wilkinsburg has been on a downward spiral in the opinion, especially like folks like news media, corporations, and this is an opportunity to showcase some of the cool things that are happening in the neighborhood." The Vacant Property Recovery Program (VPRP) helps to provide viable reuses for abandoned houses and lots. In Wilkinsburg, one organization is planning new uses for problem properties in order to create an impact in a defined area and encourage other stakeholders.

Education partners include Hampton University, a historically Black university, which graduates pilots from its Flight Education major. Other affiliations include two-year programs at Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and the Community College of Beaver County. The idea is to grab a kid’s imagination to envision themselves in an aviation career, to learn about the opportunities and to begin the training that will fulfill those ambitions. Haynes, the founding CEO of Hosanna House, is particularly interested in developing opportunities for people of color, who have been largely left behind in the aviation industry.

Suite features include a complete media suite, wood flooring, fireplace, private restrooms and a bridal lounge. Our property also includes additional amenities such as a tennis court, basketball courts, dek hockey rink, hiking trails and more. High school kids can earn certification through the Center for Aviation Technology and Training to prepare themselves for higher education programs to become airplane pilots, drone pilots, aircraft controllers, aerospace management and the like. Students will practice flight simulation of airplanes, helicopters and drones in the training lab. Unforgettable celebrations and lasting memories are made at Hosanna House's event venues. In 2020, Hosanna House marks 30 years of providing health and human services to the children, youth, and families of the Wilkinsburg community and eastern region of Western PA. Over 30 years, HHI has been intentionally cultivating community connections. We’ve done this through partnering with local organizations providing a one-stop-shop in our main building, providing much-needed health and human services. The organization is working to consider new uses for multiple sites, all of which have been identified as problems by the municipality. It is soliciting the help of individuals, businesses, churches and other stakeholders to plan the new uses.

"They realize the importance of helping families in need by giving kids the opportunity to focus their energy into positive efforts with the many activities they provide, especially the beautiful Sherwood Event Center summer camp program." A rental date deposit, security deposit (facility damage fee) and rental agreement are required upon booking your event. Your event is not considered booked until all requirements are completed. In 2003, the Sherwood Event Center property was acquired to meet the need for summer recreational programs. This property is a 14-acre facility featuring a large swimming pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts.

Several abandoned houses may be rehabbed or taken down  and reused as shared green spaces. The museum includes the story of how the Army Air Corps ended racial exclusion from flight training in 1941, creating the Tuskegee Airmen. And there’s a Tuskegee Airman G.I. Joe, complete with all the accessories, on display.

Hosanna House is committed to eradicating blight, restoring green space, providing affordable housing, and generating economic development in Wilkinsburg for the community. We are committed to stewarding the area around us, creating a destination where people thrive. We know that God can do everything to create a new life for those in need. Volunteers spent Friday doing a lot of service work around the center, including cleaning up the area, installing a new fence and preparing the space for future work. On Friday, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh and Republic Services came together to support a critical project with the Hosanna House.

From traditional seated affairs to unforgettable parties, Hosanna House has the perfect backdrop to celebrate all of your achievements. On any given day, as many as 1,000 community residents come into the center to receive or deliver services. Since the early 1990s, Hosanna House has gathered people and pulled our resources together with a single purpose in mind, ending a life cycle of poverty and helping individuals and families reach their maximum potential. The decline of the steel industry in the 1980’s hit the town especially hard. Our customers have the option to personalize their events by using a caterer of your choice or by bringing your own cuisine. You can also ask us about our catering and decorating packages developed with our team of vetted hospitality partners.

Hosanna House, Inc. is a multi-purpose community center which serves over 35,000 people a year. Hosanna House, a 125,000 square foot facility in an urban community, includes a gymnasium, swimming pool and auditorium. Hosanna House serves 500 children daily, over 2,500 during the summer and over 40,000 people per year through workforce development, technology training, health care, dental care, child care and after-school and in-school programming for youth.

Owned and operated by the Australian Rainforest Conservation Society as a non-profit business, all proceeds go to rainforest restoration at Springbrook. Each air-conditioned cottage is individual themed, including a temple-theme, a cave-theme and a 12-sided yurt theme. All feature hand-crafted furnishings, a fully equipped kitchen and original artworks. Just 13 private architect-designed luxury bungalows, all fully self contained, with double spa baths and rainforest views, are placed discreetly in a spectacularly pristine Australian rainforest location. After this study, a local community organization was seeking to take up the challenge of establishing this center. Covenant Church of Pittsburgh stepped forward and accepted the leadership challenge and founded Hosanna House as an independent, IRS Section 501(c)(3), a charitable non-profit organization in 1990.

I moved to Houston after being hired for a new job, but once here, the job fell through. Having no contacts in the area, I had no choice but to live out of my car before relocating to the Salvation Army. I began attending the Conroe House of Prayer and met people from Compassion United, who invited me into Hosanna House. During my 11 months there, I found a job, began saving money, joined the worship team at CHOP, and became house coordinator for Hosanna House. I give all the glory to God because His divine intervention took my difficult season and turned it into joy and blessing.

At Hosanna House, your rental dollars are used to fuel our mission, which is to support the most fragile in our community.
